“Earning a college degree would provide me with the tools I need to have a professional job. I want to be an entrepreneur. I want to start my own business so I can provide work for the people in my community. When I graduate from college, I want to be in a position to help other people like me. I want them to know that there is someone who understands their situation, cares about them, and is willing to help them achieve their goals.” |

“Even though I have begun to contribute positively to my community, I feel that I need to do more. In order to do that, I would like to become a lawyer and make sure that people are not treated unfairly. I know the path to this career is very long and expensive, but I am determined to work hard to get to study what I love. I know that my barriers await me and that I have to overcome many challenges to reach my goals. However, my desire to become a more productive member of this society motivates me to get a good education to become a socially responsible person.” |

“I have been raised in East Palo Alto my Whole life. Living In East Palo Alto some may look at as a curse but I see it as a blessing in disguise, I believe it has made me the person I am today and allows me to deal with much more at my age than many of my peers.”
Jahvita’s message to junior Glow Scholars: “Don’t forget who you were before you went to college use it as a tool and apply it to your work. Many of you like me are the first in your family to go to college and you have responsibilities and hopefully desire to succeed. Yes this is a lot to put on ones shoulders but I have no doubt in each and every one of you. If you keep your over all goal in mind you will do nothing but great things.” |
