Our Students

Helping students reach their greatest potential

Jonathan

“I realized that I was fortunate to be from East Menlo Park; many teens go through life living in luxury, but I was fortunate to know what it was to struggle and what it was to be grateful. I feel obligated to help my community. Since I know that there is a problem, I feel that I have an obligation to make a change.”

— Jonathan, 2008 Glow Scholar attending UC Santa Barbara

Our students inspire us. They are young adults from under-resourced communities determined to rise above their challenges to achieve great things for themselves and their communities.

Our students come from under-resourced communities. Our support provides them the platform to reach their greatest potential.

  • 80% of our students are low income, eligible for free or reduced lunch
  • 80% will be first in their family to attend college
  • Nearly 100% are from cultural backgrounds historically under-represented in college (Hispanic, Pacific Islander, African American, Multi-racial)

They are high potential students. Our students demonstrate strong motivation, persistence, and leadership qualities to succeed in life and contribute back to the society. They are committed and have worked hard through high school to attain college education. While we look at academic performance, we are not focused on finding the perfect 4.0 GPA students. In fact, the majority of our scholarship recipients are in the 2.7~3.7 GPA range. Our students have personal triumph stories far more compelling than just the numbers.

We partner with existing, established high school focused non-profitsto recruit high potential students into our program. Our Partnership Approach enables us to really understand our students beyond the numbers. More on our partnership approach
